From November 8 to 10, 2024, the 8th International Symposium on Flame-Retardant Materials & Technologies (ISFRMT2024) took place. Co-hosted by Xiamen University and Sichuan University, it gathered over 500 global experts, scholars, and industry elites. The event featured nearly 200 papers and over 190 reports, solidifying its position as a leading conference in the flame retardant field.

The conference featured three parallel sessions covering key topics such as new flame retardant designs, bio-based/green flame retardants, mechanisms and new concepts, composites, nano-hybrid flame retardants, combustion behavior, smoke, toxicity, environmental impacts, fire safety in new energy sectors, and sustainable recycling. The focus on environmental protection, sustainability, and fire safety in new energy sectors highlighted the trend towards eco-friendly flame retardant research. Discussions also covered new standards, regulations, policies, and emerging trends, offering fresh strategic insights for the industry.

Fire Testing Technology (FTT) from the UK co-hosted the event. FTT's Sales Director, Sandra Pasantes, discussed using FTT's large cone calorimeter for testing low heat release rate materials. This model provides a uniform heat flux over a larger sample area, reducing errors significantly compared to traditional methods. Sandra also analyzed the impact of different settings on test results, offering valuable insights.
